“What is a soul? It’s like electricity – we
don’t really know what it is, but it’s a
force that can light up a room.”
~ Ray Charles
We have become a people who must see, touch, taste, feel, or hear something to believe it to be true or real. If we can measure it, replicate it, classify it, and understand how it works; then we are comfortable with it. Yet, so much of what is most vital, most important to human life is shrouded in mystery.
We may not be able to explain, predict, or control it, but we all know what it is when it shows up. Like the way that a look or a touch from a loving partner can lift our spirits when we are down, or the wonder that we feel when we become immersed in the beauty of the natural world which pulses around us, or those awe-inspiring moments when we feel a part of something so much larger than the boundaries of our own flesh.
May we never lose our capacity to experience and appreciate all that is ineffable, and may our openness to the mystery give us souls that light up a room!
Have a great week everyone!
