So often we connect words like courage and strength with acts of valor in battle or feats of physical fortitude.  But there are other ways that these traits are demonstrated.  The acts of courage and strength that I am referring to are played out not on battlefields or in competitions; but amidst the sweat and toil of everyday life at work and at home.  It takes courage and strength:

  • To not be rude back to someone who is rude to you
  • To do the right thing even if it means negative consequences for you
  • To keep an open and loving heart even after being hurt or losing someone
  • To nurture and feed the hope within you even when all around you seems dim and hopeless
  • To risk great failure by attempting great things
  • To be grounded in gratitude even in the difficult times
  • To resist the temptation to live our lives on “auto-pilot” and instead be truly present and invested
  • To be a witness to the suffering of others and not make it about ourselves

None of these acts of courage and strength will win you a hero’s welcome or a gold medal, but what would our world be like if so many strong and courageous people didn’t make these choices day in and day out anyway?  May we be counted among the strong and courageous today!

Have a great week, everyone!
