There are so many reasons why we are all fortunate to be living in the time in which we are living. Technological advancements put vast amounts of information and resources at our disposal and truly make us a global village. One of the challenges of our time, however, is that this same technological prowess brings up to the minute awareness of all the struggles and difficulties faced not only by our own organization, community, state and nation; but the struggles and difficulties that people are facing around the world. This kind of global awareness can lead to the development of a dismal and fatalistic perspective, if we let it. We can tell ourselves, “Look at all the problems out there. They are much too big for me to do anything about. What does it matter what I do?” But it does matter. It matters a lot. Mother Teresa once said,
We ourselves feel that what we are doing is just a drop in the ocean. But the ocean would be less because of that missing drop.”
We each have our part to play. It is our decision as to what contribution we will make to the mending of what is broken in this world. May our dedication and enthusiasm never be diminished by seemingly insurmountable tasks. We cannot afford even one missing drop!
Have a wonderful week, everyone!
