Thanks to everyone who came out to celebrate the grand opening of our Suncoast Hospice Resale Shoppe in Countryside on Sept. 12.
Our festivities included a big sale at all three Suncoast Hospice Resale Shoppe locations, special merchandise, giveaways, refreshments, a new repurposing workshop designing fall-style items, and opportunities to learn about volunteer service.
More than 500 people shopped at Countryside raising more than $9,700 in proceeds to support services provided by Suncoast Hospice and other member organizations of Empath Health.
Community Impact
Our resale shoppes are a longtime staple in the Pinellas County community. Over the years we’ve had a few varying locations, always thriving on the extraordinary support from our donors, shoppers and volunteers.
Each year we raise approximately $2,000,000 in proceeds, which all goes right back to the community. With this tremendous help, we’re able to provide vital care, services, clothing and other household items to many patients and families in our community who are in need.
Thanks to our community’s generous donations, you can always find a revolving inventory of quality and economical pieces, whether you want to refresh your style, redecorate your space or find those special gifts for your friends and family. And thanks to our 500 compassionate volunteers who provide excellent service, you can count on a positive experience.
“Our stores are a public expression of the care we provide to our patients and families. Many people donate items that belonged to their loved ones, allowing them to share and give back in very personal and meaningful ways. Our stores are run primarily by volunteers who give their time and expertise supporting our mission of care to the community,” said Kathy Rabon, Suncoast Hospice Foundation executive director.
Repurpose, Create and Support
Another invaluable benefit of our resale shoppes and other thrift stores is saving our environment. By donating, purchasing and reusing items, you can help keep things out of the landfills and transform what once was old into something new and fabulous.
Our repurposing workshops will be available to customers who can make different kinds of items to take home. We also plan to invite some groups to create pieces that will be left to sell in the stores.
“With these workshops we’re encouraging our community to donate their time, learn something new, be creative and contribute their items to our mission,” said Joan Spies, resale shoppes manager. Stay tuned for more information about the repurposing workshops.
Our resale shoppes are open Monday through Saturday – 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. You can drop off donations at any location or call for pick-ups of large or heavy items. To learn more about volunteer openings visit our website.
