The Huffington Post put out an article recently outlining “7 Habits of Chronically Unhappy People.” An interesting twist on all of the articles circulating these days about how to be happy. The unhappy habit that stood out most to me was #5 “You strive to control your life.” Don’t we all? How could this be a bad thing? We all try to fashion our lives in such a way that we accentuate the positive and diminish the negative. But the article draws an important distinction between being focused and working towards goals on the one hand, and living under the mistaken impression that we can always control what happens in our lives, on the other hand.
When we are able to cultivate that combination of a clear vision and the ability to “go with the flow” and adapt to unforeseen roadblocks, it helps us to not blame ourselves or come apart at the seams when our best laid plans go awry. Wishing for us all this week the insight to avoid the control trap!
Have a great week everyone!
