I suppose there is a place, in the scheme of things, for grand gestures. There are times, every now and then, when a crisis presents itself and circumstances require a brave soul to stand in the gap and deliver under pressure. What is far more noteworthy, however, is what happens without the bright lights and the media coverage.
Those who come to work day in and day out year after year and extend genuine, heartfelt concern and compassion to all those they encounter. Without all the fanfare, they make countless gestures of kindness and thoughtfulness that often go largely unnoticed. They choose every day to swim against the current and focus on the needs of others rather than being pulled into the vortex of their own complaints and struggles.
Mother Teresa once said, “Do not think that love in order to be genuine has to be extraordinary. What we need is to love without getting tired.”
May we work to develop the kind of soul that generates a love which stands the test of time.
Have a great week everyone!
