What is it that keeps you up at night? All of us wrestle with this fierce opponent at points in our lives. Fear can immobilize us. It can cower us into choosing the safe path instead of the one our courage is calling us to. It can fool us into thinking that we are small and insignificant when, in fact, we have tremendous power within our circles of influence. This excerpt from a commencement speech by none other than actor Jim Carrey provides a striking insight into this inner struggle.
Fear is going to be a player in your life, but you get to decide how much.
You can spend your whole life imagining ghosts,
worrying about the pathway to the future,
but all there will ever be is what’s happening here –
and the decisions that we make in this moment,
which are based in either love or fear.
Sometimes it is just that simple. Are we acting out of love or fear? In all of the inner battles each of us are waging today, may the love within us vanquish our fear and empower us to stride boldly into a future built of our most cherished aspirations.
Have a great week, everyone!
Jim
